Friday Funnies: No little green men in Cumbria

It’s a long-overdue return for the Friday Funnies this week with the latest crop of daft stories, amusing headlines and straightforward gaffes from the regional press, courtesy of  HTFP readers.

Please keep them coming to [email protected].

Full marks to the subs at the Westmorland Gazette for grabbing the attention of readers with this rather dramatic headline, even though the story turns out to be about little green plants rather than little green men.

Over to the Chorley Guardian now, and a crime report which appears to have strayed in from the Lost and Found column….

Business reporters in the West Midlands were slightly bemised by the Coventry Telegraph’s description of Handelsbanken as “Coventry bank.”

Handelsbank was founded in Sweden in 1871 and its headquarters are in Stockholm, although apparently it does have a branch in Coventry….

Another possibly intentional funny from the Dorset Echo, after the boss of Dorchester Town FC’s attempt to tackle a streaker became a You Tube hit….

And finally….journalists at the Stratford Herald and neighbouring titles were amused by this report on plans for a round-the-world beer festival.

The by-line, Ron Westrich, happens to be an anagram of Chris Towner, the Herald’s editor.
