Snow-hit regional press awards rescheduled

A major regional journalism awards ceremony which was postponed because of heavy snow has been rescheduled.

The Tom Cordner North East Press Awards were due to take place on 27 November in South Shields but snow in the region put the event on hold.

Now organisers have rearranged the annual event for 14 January at the same venue – Customs House Theatre, where tickets purchased for the postponed event will still be valid.

More than 70 journalists from across the North-East who are on the shortlist will find out if they have won prizes at the ceremony.

Bernice Saltzer, chairman of the awards organising group, said: “The theatre has been very helpful in mid-panto season to re-accommodate the awards.

“The format for the evening will be the same and tickets bought for 27 November are still valid.”

The 29th awards start will have a summery seaside fun-of-the-fair theme and will start with a drinks reception at 7.30pm.

Tickets, costing £20, are still available by contacting Bernice on 0191 265 6111 or emailing [email protected].
