Regional daily readers given chance to quiz PM

Prime Minister David Cameron has thanked a regional daily paper after he met 150 readers to face questions.

The Brighton-based Argus organised a PM Direct event so local people could attend a question and answer session with Mr Cameron.

And following the event at Hove Town Hall last week, the Prime Minister has thanked the newspaper, saying he enjoyed meeting people and speaking to them about financial challenges facing the country.

He said: “I really enjoyed coming to Brighton and Hove and hearing from Argus readers about the issues that really matter to them.

“It’s really important to me to be able to get out of London and speak to people about the important challenges facing the country right now and how we can set about reducing the deficit and cutting spending in a way that is fair and responsible.

“And of course, my thanks go to The Argus for setting up such a great event.”

News editor Lee Gibbs introduced Mr Cameron at Thursday’s debate, which was broadcast live on the paper’s website.

Said Lee: “The visit of the Prime Minister at such a crucial time in the country’s history meant all eyes were on Brighton and Hove.

“For many people in Sussex, especially the high proportion working in the public sector, the next 12 months is full of uncertainty.

“Hosting this event was a perfect way for our readers to put their questions and concerns to the man at the top.”
