Nominations wanted for lifetime achievement prize

A new lifetime achievement award is being introduced as part of this year’s Yorkshire and the Humber Media Awards sponsored by O2.

Journalists across the region are now being invited to send in nominations for the prize, designed to recognise the work of its “most iconic, influential and respected journalists.”

Judges say they are looking for the men and women whose names are synonymous with their publications or broadcast stations.

“They may be a newspaper editor who has worked diligently to maintain standards of journalism, battled to influence or change opinions for the good of a community or inspired the journalists of the future. They may be writers or presenters who have become household names with their readers, listeners or viewers,” said a spokesperson.

The winner will be announced at the climax of the 02 award ceremony on 22 July. Entries for the 16 awards categories closed earlier this month but the shortlist is yet to be published.

Names of lifetime achievement award nominees can be e-mailed to Ann McCracken, O2 Communications Manager North at [email protected] or [email protected]. The deadline for nominations is 16 June.

Unless they allow nominations of editors who have been made redundant, like me, I am afraid the number of nominees will be embarrassingly small!!
