New venue for deputy editor's charity swim

A regional press deputy editor whose charity swim had to be called off due to blue green algae has rescheduled the event.

Paul Hartley, left, of the Hull Daily Mail had been intending to take part in the Great North Swim at Windermere earlier this month to raise cash for the paper’s chosen charity, Dove House Hospice.

He has now rescheduled it for the rather less picturesque surroundings of Salford and the Manchester Ship Canal.

Said Paul: “I’m determined not be be beaten by the toxic algae so I will be doing the Great Salford Swim instead on September 26.

“I’m not looking forward to it quite as much as Windermere. One of the attractions of the Great North Swim was its beautiful location. Salford Quays at the end of the Manchester Ship Canal will be a somewhat different experience.”

Paul has so far raised £500 for the hospice, which was chosen as the Mail’s 125th Anniversary Charity Of The Year.
