New magazine to launch next week to fill Crain's gap

A new publication set up after the demise of business news magazine Crain’s Manchester Business will launch on Monday in partnership with a green car news site.

Former Manchester Evening News transport correspondent Alan Salter has set up Manchester Matters as an online and print-on-demand publication to replace his online magazine TransportMatters.

It will be launched to try to fill the gap left by Crain’s, which ceased publication last month, as well as covering issues around public and private transport and politics.

And Manchester Matters has agreed a deal with Cheshire-based Green-Car-Guide.com so the green car site will provide road test reports and news for the magazine’s motoring section.

Editor Alan Salter said: “TransportMatters has always had a motoring section, despite its primary interest of public transport.

“I am particularly keen to keep that going and Green-Car-Guide.com is a perfect partner for our target audience of those with the wherewithal to buy a new car – but also some conscience about what we are doing to the planet.

“I firmly believe that today’s media not only has to be convergent but also collaborative and there will be further arrangements with other partners in due course.”

Manchester Matters will launch on Monday through a dedicated website, manchestermatters.co.uk, partnered with the ‘Myebook’ publishing platform which offers on screen page-turning and audio and video within the 32-page magazine.

It will be free to read online but there will be a small charge for printed copies.

Yikes – that front page looks HORRIBLE….

It’s probably just a rough mock-up, I hope.
If not any 16-year-old with access to Microsoft Publisher could have done better.
