New deputy named in Aberdeen as Prest steps up

A new deputy editor has been appointed at Aberdeen’s Evening Express as the existing post-holder prepares to move on.

As reported in December, Richard Prest is to take over as the new editor of the Evening Telegraph in Dundee. He starts his new job on 8 March.

Now 31-year-old Alan McCabe, who first joined the paper as a trainee reporter 14 years ago, has been named as his successor.

Alan subsequently moved to the Daily Record as a sports writer, but returned to the Evening Express in 2004 since when his roles have included chief sub-editor and assistant editor.

He said: “It is an honour to have been appointed deputy editor of such a fantastic newspaper.

“It’s also a privilege to be able to continue to work with such a talented team, dedicated to taking the paper to even greater heights.”
