Never a boar-ing moment for Gloucestershire weekly

Staff at a weekly newspaper office had an unusual visitor this week when they met the new mascot of a local wildlife group.

Ella, a ten-day-old wild boar hoglet, enjoyed a bowl of cornflakes on reporter Alex Winter’s desk as she was introduced to staff of The Forester office in Cinderford.

The little creature, who was rescued from the wild after apparently being abandoned by its mother, has been adopted as the new mascot of the Friends of the Wild Boar group, set up to protect the small herd of boar that now inhabit the Forest of Dean.

Alex was given the task of taking a note of Ella’s every grunt and squeak and the paper made a video of the visit which can be seen on the Forester’s ftv channel on thisisgloucestershire.co.uk/forest.

Already too domesticated to be released back into the wild, Ella lives with one of the group’s members, Alistair Fraser.

He said: “She’s doing really well now. We’re feeding her on cereal and goats milk. She uses her litter tray and gets on with my dogs.”
