Journalists bake cakes for readers to raise £250

Editorial staff from a weekly newspaper got in the charity spirit by baking cakes for readers in support of Children in Need.

The Mansfield Chad collected more than £250 for the annual fundraising extravaganza by selling cakes along with cups of tea and coffee at a shopping centre in the town.

Chad editor Tracy Powell came up with the idea and got journalists at the title involved in baking treats to sell.

And every cake created by the team was sold to readers and shoppers at the three-hour event.

  • Tracy said: “As a keen baker myself and having seen that one of the themes for this year’s Children in Need was home-baking, I thought it would be a good idea for the Chad to get involved.

“We really enjoyed the event and sold every single piece of cake made by several members of the team.

“I was genuinely surprised at the level of support from the community over just three hours, and we could have sold twice as much.”

People were also invited to read a copy of the paper while they enjoyed their cake.
