Bad weather has delayed the delivery of a number of Scottish weekly titles printed in the North-East of England.
Copies of The Buteman and other Johnston Press-owned weeklies were due to be delivered yesterday but were held up for 24 hours after “horrific” weather on Wednesday evening.
Heavy snow in the North-East meant that the vehicles carrying the papers had their journey north from JP’s Sunderland print works halted by police south of Berwick-upon-Tweed.
The convoy was eventually allowed through, with a police escort, at around 4am yesterday and arrived at a distribution depot on the outskirts of Edinburgh two and a half hours later.
The Buteman is now expected to arrive on the Isle of Bute with the regular daily newspapers this morning.
Its website buteman.co.uk carried a piece yesterday apologising to readers for any inconvenience.
Production of a number of Scottish weeklies previously printed at Edinburgh was moved to Sunderland last year.
