Doctor wins health journalism award

A doctor who writes columns for the London Evening Standard has been named the journalist of the year by charity Mind at awards which recognise excellence in mental health reporting.

Dr Max Pemberton, who also writes for the Daily Telegraph, won the award at a ceremony in London for his columns writing about mental health from a doctor’s point of view.

Meanwhile Jennie Agg from Manchester University was named the Mind student journalist of the year for her work at weekly publication Student direct Mancunion.

Mind holds the awards each year to praise the contribution made by individuals in deepening understanding of mental health issues.

Barry Nelson, health editor of the Northern Echo, was among those who were shortlisted for this year’s awards.

All the other shortlisted candidates for the awards, now in their 17th year, were drawn from national newspapers.
