Bursary on offer to would-be journalists

Would-be magazine journalists are being given the chance to have half their course fees paid in a new initiative by the Sports Journalist Association.

The SJA is offering a bursary worth £1,800 towards the cost of undertaking a nine-week magazine journalism course at PMA Media Training in North London.

The course, which normally costs £3,760, starts on 12 July and finishes on 10 September and leads to a post-graduate certificate in magazine journalism.

It is the shortest and most intensive of pre-entry journalism courses and has been accredited by the Periodicals Training Council, the governing body of the magazine industry, since its lainch 22 years ago.

Steven Downes, secretary of the SJA said: “The SJA is very aware that, in an ever more competitive jobs market, if you want to be a journalist, it’s vital that you learn the core skills before you specialise.

“By teaming up with PMA, we are delighted to be able to offer a promising young journalist a chance to benefit from attending a rigorous and intensive training course, offering them a step up on their career.”

The closing date for applications for the bursary is 14 June. For more information click here
