Weekly's cancer appeal tops £80,000 mark

A press appeal to raise £150,000 to refurbish a hospital’s cancer suite has passed the halfway mark.

The Kidderminster Shuttle is hoping to add the sum to the £100,000 donated by the Kidderminster Hospital League of Friends to makeover its Millbrook Suite. The current total stands at £80,498.

Money from the Millbrook Appeal will be used to upgrade and extend the suite and equipment as well as build more consulting areas and waiting rooms for families.

Although it’s under no threat of closure, the nearest cancer centres is in Wolverhampton and the Millbrook Suite is highly regarded by the local community, Shuttle editor Clive Joyce told HTFP.

It was set up in 1998 using £340,000 raised by a public appeal. Some of the latest fundraising activities include a race afternoon which generated £3,510 and a 21-year-old local woman doing a skydive next month as her mother was treated at the centre.
