A veteran local press photographer who has decided to hang up his cameras after 34 years at one paper has spoken of his greatest photographic moments in an audio slideshow.

George Hoole, of the Croydon Advertiser, began his career in the 1960s and snapped many of the decade’s icons including Twiggy, Donovan and Keith Moon.

Working mainly for magazines, he documented life in and around London for various publications before joining the Advertiser in the 1970s.

George suffered a serious stroke 30 years ago but continued his career at the paper, eventually becoming its archivist.

To mark his retirement, the paper’s current chief photographer David Berman put together a “soundslide” or audio slideshow in which George recounts his glory days.

Thanks George. You have been a great encouragement and support to us ‘young un’s’ over the years. Its been nice to have someone enthusiastic and appreciative of our photography. More than all of that of course, we will all miss your constant moaning and carping 😉
