A UK student newspaper has been awarded second place in an American press awards.

The Demon, the fortnightly newspaper published by De Montfort University in Leicester, was runner-up in the best in show category at the prize scheme run by the Associated Collegiate Press of America (ACPA).

The Demon is the first UK publication to be recognised in the awards which are predominantly for American publications.

Editor Andy Schooledge told the Leicester Mercury: “American universities are able to spend lots of money on their student media, giving them the latest up-to-date resources, paying the staff that work on their publications and creating a professional environment for them to work in.

“I’m really proud of our team that work on The Demon who can produce a publication of such quality.”
