Sports journalism awards open for entries

Entries for the 2009 British Sports Journalism Awards are now open.

There is a dedicated category for sports writers from the regional press along with prizes for the best cartoonist, feature writer, columnist, internet reporter, live blog and news picture among others.

Entry for the awards is open to all journalists working for British-based media organisations, regardless of whether they are members of the Sports Journalists’ Association which organises the annual awards.

Last year’s regional writer winner was Jon Coleman, from the CN Group, while the Nottingham Evening Post’s Dan Matthams was commended in the young sports photographer category.

Deadline for entries is 8 January and full details of all prize categories and how to enter can be found on the Sports Journalists’ Association website.

All winners will be announced on 8 March at The Brewery, in London.
