Reporter lives on just £1 a day

A reporter took on a tough fiscal challenge when she tried to live on just £1 a day for a week.

Kate Scotter, from the Norwich Evening News, embarked on the thrifty mission as part of National Recycling Week.

She was inspired by the story of Bristol teacher Kath Kelly who lived for an entire year on just £1 a day.

Among the hurdles Kate had to overcome were a dent in her social life, a lack of top quality takeaways and eating the cupboards bare of leftover food.

Kate told HTFP: “Living on a small amount of money reduces waste. I managed to have enough food in the cupboard to live off leftovers for a week.

“It did get quite tricky in the end as you don’t realise how you spend money willy-nilly.

“I was quite lucky as on Thursday we had a training day where they provided a buffet which I made the most of.

“The whole thing does make you think and you realise how expensive everything is.

“Last year I tried to live waste free for a week which was actually much easier.”

So copying something that someone has already done is meaningful and original journalism is it?

Beneath my bespoke suit and silk underwear I am completely naked, just as beneath her cupboards groaning with food this person lived on just a pound a day.
