Regional daily joins hunt for missing Claudia

York daily The Press has made a video to help the hunt for local missing chef Claudia Lawrence.

The five-minute film entitled “Claudia, Where Are You?” features an emotional appeal from her father for information about his daughter’s mysterious disappearance.

The video was released on Friday to mark 100 days since Claudia vanished without trace, with police still having no clues as to her whereabouts.

It has been uploaded to YouTube and can also be viewed both on The Press’s website at thepress.co.uk/video, and at findclaudia.co.uk, a dedicated website set up to find the missing 35-year-old.

Speaking on the video, Mr Lawrence said: “There is someone out there. If you are that somebody you should jolly well be saying so because there is no point in protecting anyone’s relationships or lifestyle in the situation that we are in.

“This is potentially a murder investigation. It’s just not fair to Claudia’s family – to me, to her sister, Ali, and to her mum. Please just say something.”

Mr Lawrence, 62, a solicitor from Slingsby, near Malton, North Yorkshire, said it was important to keep Claudia’s disappearance in the media and this video was a way of giving the case greater exposure.

Claudia, a chef at the University of York’s Roger Kirk Centre, disappeared with no bank cards, passport or spare clothes.

David Dunning, The Press’s video journalist, said: “Peter Lawrence knows how important the web is in spreading the plea for information to help find out what has happened to Claudia. The number of people who will have access to this film is huge and online TV footage is more important to websites than ever before.

“It’s part of a wider campaign to keep Claudia’s case in the public eye and with the millions of potential viewers on the web, I hope it helps.”

Martin Dales, Mr Lawrence’s friend and spokesman, said: “Peter is very grateful to David and The Press for their support in helping him produce this film which he hopes will be widely viewed on the internet.

“As he believes Claudia could be anywhere, he feels the worldwide audience of the web is vital to her being found.”
