Power cut fails to halt Advertiser team

Journalists from the Croydon Advertiser overcame a power cut to get their New Year edition onto the streets.

The editorial team and advertising staff were shipped out to their head office in nearby Reigate from where they managed to send the 1 January edition to the presses on New Year’s Eve.

Editor Ian Carter wrote on his blog: “I hate to point the finger of blame, although the word on the street – or at least in the IT department – is that our security guard has a lot to answer for.

“Shortly after the Croydon team arrived in the Reigate office a small fire broke out in one of our overhead newsroom lights, creating a small drama and a big smell.

“It prompted one reporter to claim it was God’s way of telling me everyone should be sent home early but I’m not doing that.

“I just turned the lights off and opened all the windows instead – problem solved.”

It looked ike it was written in the dark. Once again a shoddy product from a shoddy team. Shame the power cut didn’t prevent it’s publication
