Photo prize offering £2,500 opens for entries

A top prize of £2,500 is up for grabs in a maritime photography award.

Run by magazine Amateur Photographer, the overall winner will also enjoy a trip to a whiskey distillery in Scotland and see their shot in the magazine and Sunday Express.

Organisers say they are looking for “striking snapshots that epitomise Britain’s coastal landscape and our nation’s relationship with the sea”.

A new magazine has launched for football north of the border.

Called ‘Eleven’, it is published by Matchday media and covers Scottish soccer from the top division teams and internationals down to local level, grassroots football.

Exeter’s Express and Echo and the Yorkshire Post both feature in the shortlist of an environmental press awards.

The Express and Echo is up for the campaign of the year prize for its ‘Green Teams’ initiative which engaged local schools in environmental projects such as reducing food waste and energy saving.

The Post is shortlisted in judges’ award category. Prizes will be handed out at Raymond Blanc’s Le Manoir aux Quat’Saisons restaurant on 25 November in Oxfordshire. The awards are run by publishers Wilmington.


The new Tradeclips wire service offering media companies storage and hosting for their online video content is being officially launched on Thursday with an event at the London Aquarium.

Media representatives who are planning to attend the launch party are being asked to register here.


The Birmingham Press Club has a new treasurer. Neil Wilson is a director of Warwickshire-based chartered accountants Guest Wilson.

He is set to introduce various innovations at the club including an internet-based payments and accounts system.

He succeeds Colin Meager who stands down after ten years in the role.
