PA sports journalist wins radio bursary prize

Press Association sports journalist Chris Wilson has won the ninth biennial Alfred Bradley Bursary Award.

The prize is designed to encourage new radio writing in the north of England and commemorates the life and work of BBC radio producer Alfred Bradley, entitling Chris to a £3,000 bursary.

He will also be considered for a BBC Radio 4 commission and work alongside the broadcaster to develop further ideas after being picked from over 400 entries.

Chris’ submission was called ‘Playing the Game’ which was a monologue about a teenager dealing with his dad’s blossoming relationship with his auntie after his own mother died.

Chris said: “I would have never normally thought about writing for radio drama, but the Alfred Bradley Bursary Award gave me the incentive to send in my play and see what happened.”
