News staying positive in new campaign

The Lynn News has joined the growing list of local papers to launch a campaign aimed at lifting some of the economic gloom in its area.

The newspaper’s ‘Positively West Norfolk’ promotion has even received praise from Gordon Brown.

Mr Brown wrote in a special edition of the twice-weekly title: “I am pleased the Lynn News is taking positive action to support local businesses through this difficult time and delighted to support your campaign.

“I know there are dynamic businesses in West Norfolk who are continuing to have success despite the downturn and I am glad these stories will by highlighted by the Positively West Norfolk campaign in the Lynn News.”

The newspaper, based in King’s Lynn, has won support from council, civic and business leaders.

It aims to give added impact to business success stories by using its new Positively West Norfolk logo which is also being offered in enlarged laminated versions as window posters for local companies.

The News splashed with campaign launch backed up with success stories on seven pages and rebranding of its Situations Vacant pages to feature the new logo.

Editor Malcolm Powell said: “We want to encourage even more companies to tell us about their achievements. We feel this area has plenty to shout about and that’s what we will be doing.

“Of course we’ve had our fair share of the bad news but now the time is right to talk up our towns.”

Two major supermarket chains have announced multi-million pound plans for additional investment in King’s Lynn and later this year will see the opening of a £400m newsprint production plant as work is completed on what has been the second-largest construction site in the UK, after London’s 2012 Olympic development.

Yes I believe West Norfolk should be talked up and no one better than Malcolm Powell at doing that. However wouldn’t it be nice for those JP jokers to believe in King’s Lynn and the workers they have plunged into the hopeless jobs market.I remember record sales and a highly profitable well respected business, any of that still left? “Life is Local” I think not.
