New editor appointed at regional daily

A Scottish daily has appointed a new editor as it prepares to wave goodbye to its long-serving news chief.

Richard Prest, currently deputy editor of Aberdeen daily the Evening Express, will take over at Dundee’s Evening Telegraph early next year.

The 36-year-old succeeds Gordon Wishart who has been with the Evening Telegraph for 43 years, the last four of which have been as editor.

Under his editorship, the paper increased sales two years in a row with its most recent audited circulation at 23,180.

David Thomson, joint MD of the Evening Telegraph and Evening Express’ parent company DC Thomson, said today: “Richard is bringing with him a wealth of experience in driving the success of an evening paper and we look forward to his contribution and direction in continuing to drive sales and revenue for the Evening Telegraph.”

Richard joined the Evening Express as a trainee sports reporter in 1990, straight from school and has worked as a news reporter, crime reporter and chief reporter before becoming assistant news editor in 1999.

He was promoted to news editor a year later, then assistant editor in 2003 and deputy editor three years ago.
