Nationwide strike ballot for Trinity union members

Workers at all of Trinity Mirror’s 12 UK print centres are to be balloted for industrial action.

Voting papers will go out to 1,093 members of the Unite union tomorrow after a nationwide pay freeze was imposed by the newspaper publisher last November.

Any resultant industrial action could affect printing of the company’s local and national newspapers in England, Scotland and Wales.

Unite national officer Steve Sibbald said: “The latest figures from the company’s accounts show that they have, once again, made a profit.

“As a result of this their share price has rocketed, which will be good news for their board and their executives.

“Meanwhile, our members and the majority of their colleagues have wage freezes imposed on them.”

A Trinity Mirror spokesman said: “We’re disappointed that Unite is seeking to take this action, particularly as it’s now nine months since the decision not to hold a pay review was announced.

“The decision was taken as part of a package of cost-reduction measures designed to ensure that we survive the dramatic revenue and profit downturn. Unite’s actions will not deflect us from that goal.”

What about the rest of us who have to get on with all the extra responsibility and get nothing else for it!
Think yourselves lucky you have a job!

I am grateful the union is going to win us all a pay rise.
I’ll be watching HTFP to see what percentage we get.

When the pay freeze was announced staff were told how the company was in dire straits and it was a desperate measure. Then the other week multi-million pound profits were announced by Trinity Miror. Perhaps that has something to do with the ballot being staged now.
