Journalism student fulfils childhood dream

A university journalism student fulfilled a childhood dream when she interviewed the stars of motorsport as a finalist in a Europe-wide competition.

Kate Goodacre 24, is currently finishing a masters degree at the University of Salford and is one of 11 shortlisted entrants in the annual Bridgestone e-reporter young journalist competition.

She was flown to a GP2 motorsport series event in Germany where she interviewed drivers including Sebastien Buemi and Ayrton Senna’s former engineer.

Kate, who has been a Formula 1 fan since childhood, told the Northwich Guardian: “As the weekend progressed, my confidence grew tremendously and I got a real sense of the friendly rivalry that GP2 is now famous for.

“By the end of the weekend, I really felt at home thanks to the kindness and professionalism of everyone I’ve encountered in the paddock.”

The overall winner of the competition will be revealed next month and will take home a laptop and enjoy work experience with a motorsport publication.
