The Southern Daily Echo leads the way in the list of nominations for the EDF Energy London and South of England Media Awards which are published in full for the first time here today.
Newsquest’s Southampton-based title chalked up 14 nominations across eight different categories, including one for the prestigious daily newspaper of the year title, while two of its reporters feature on the five-strong shortlist for best daily journalist.
The shortlist also sees Bournemouth’s Daily Echo weigh in with eight nominations, with seven apiece for Brighton’s Argus and The News, Portsmouth.
The awards, run in association with HoldtheFrontPage, generated a record response from media organisations in the region, giving the judging panel a busy time as it worked its way through the 308 entries.
Among the weekly nominations is the Surrey Mirror, with three appearances, including one for reporter Nev Wilson who made a little bit of history last year by becoming the first person to win best newcomer and weekly journalist at the same event.
The Crawley News, East Grinstead Courier and Dorset Echo also all feature three times in the awards which cover Dorset, Hampshire, Kent, London, Surrey and East and West Sussex.
The awards ceremony takes place at The Globe theatre in London on 22 October. Scroll down to read the full shortlist:
