Fringe Festival journalism prize shortlist revealed

The shortlist for an annual arts journalism prize has been revealed as part of the Edinburgh Festival Fringe.

The Allen Wright Awards were set up in 1998 to honour the contribution of the former Scotsman arts editor by the Edinburgh Festival Fringe Society.

They are the only official awards which the Society hands out and are open to under-30s only.

The Society said: “As arts editor of The Scotsman for 30 years, Allen Wright was a passionate supporter of the Fringe and a great encourager of young talent.

“The Fringe First Awards, which he founded, are to this day a major institution and point of highest prestige for its recipients.

“Similarly, the Allen Wright Award – the only official award handed out by the Fringe Society – honours his ideals and continues his contribution to the festival he loved.”
