Farmer turned journalist dies aged 64

A Scottish farmer turned freelance journalist who wrote stories for nearly two decades has died.

Dan Buglass wrote for a host of publications include the Aberdeen-based Press and Journal and The Scotsman where he was rural affairs editor.

The 64-year-old had spent the last three months in Edinburgh Royal Infirmary, where he died on Saturday, after suffering from organ failure.

Dan was brought up in the Borders region and started farming aged just 21 on a site near Selkirk.

He later entered the world of journalism by doing broadcasting work for the BBC and writing columns for specialist publications and the local press.

During Margaret Thatcher’s reign at Number 10 he even stood as a Conservative Party candidate in a Glasgow constituency.

Dan is survived by his children Andrew, Liz and Helen, and six grandchildren. His funeral takes place today at Mortonhall Crematorium, in Edinburgh, at 3pm.
