Echo's campaign sees another boost for disabled teen

A wealthy ‘Dragon’ has come to the aid of a disabled teenager who featured in a North East daily’s fundraising campaign.

In September, we reported how The Northern Echo had helped to raise £10,000 in a matter of days so meningitis victim Lyndon Longhorne could purchase a pair of prosthetic legs.

And now the 14-year-old will soon be the new owner of a £25,000 artificial arm thanks to Dragons’ Den star Duncan Bannatyne.

Lyndon recently attended an awards ceremony in London where he was not only named Bravest Child 2009 by children’s charity WellChild but also met Joanne Bannatyne.

When she was later asked by her multi-millionaire husband what she would like for a wedding anniversary present, she replied a new arm for the teenager.

Lyndon lost both his legs and part of an arm to meningitis as a baby but is an accomplished swimmer who is hoping to compete in the 2012 Paralympic Games in London.
