Dawson loses out as Trinity awards new contracts

Local and national newspaper publisher Trinity Mirror has announced a new distribution deal for its titles.

As a result its contract with Dawson News, reportedly worth £65m per year, has been terminated.

The new deals are with Smiths News, Menzies Distribution and Newspread for distribution of its titles across the group including those published by Independent News and Media (UK) and Centurycomm Limited.

The five year contracts, commencing in October, are for the UK and Ireland and worth in excess of £500m per year.

Mark Hollinshead, MD of Trinity Mirror’s nationals division, said: “Our firm objective throughout the contract negotiations has been to achieve a sustainable route to market for our titles whilst simultaneously ensuring that retailers receive the best possible service.

“Regrettably, Dawson News has not been awarded a new contract for our business.

“We would like to thank them, however, for the support, help and commitment they have given to us during a very long association.

“Work has already begun to ensure there is a smooth transition for our new distribution network.”
