Colombia holiday on offer to travel journalists

A holiday for two in Colombia and a byline in a national newspaper are up for grabs in an annual travel writing competition.

The prize scheme is run by Bradt Travel Guides and the Independent on Sunday and this year’s theme is ‘Destination Unknown’.

The winning writer will not only enjoy the trip for two to South America but also see their work in the national Sunday as well as receive a commission for a further 900-word feature on the Colombia holiday.

It is open to anyone aged over 18, whether published or unpublished, and entries must not exceed 800 words.

A new category has also been set up exclusively for unpublished writers with a travel writing workshop in Spain on offer to the winner.

The closing date for entries is midday on 15 May and the prize ceremony is in London on 14 July.

  • Full competition details are available on the Bradt website and for inspiration read the 2007 and 2008 winners.
