Newsquest reaches deal for multimedia content from PA

Newsquest has reached a deal with The Press Association for multimedia content across the group’s websites.

The agreement encompasses text, photos, video and interactive graphics for use on websites for Newsquest’s 300 regional weekly and daily newspapers, which means that content from PA will appear alongside locally generated words, pictures and video.

The company will use PA content to create multimedia news packages around the day’s top national news, sport and entertainment stories. This will include around 25 video clips a week gathered by PA’s growing network of video journalists.

Titles in Scotland, including the Herald and the Glasgow Evening Times, will also get a dedicated Scottish video news service of up to 20 video stories a week.

Newsquest group editorial manager Margaret Strayton said: “We know that consumers of news and information are increasingly becoming ‘news grazers’ sampling a veritable media buffet throughout the day.

“There is a seismic shift in the media marketplace and Newsquest is transforming its culture to meet this challenge.

“We believe this national package will complement our ultra local packages with up-to-the minute information and variety of viewpoints to be key.”

PA editor-in-chief Tony Watson said: “We are delighted to be working with Newsquest to help achieve their multimedia strategy. The Scottish aspect of the deal is particularly key as it will allow us to expand our video gathering capabilities north of the border for our first dedicated video service in Scotland.”

The Press Association employs 30 video journalists and has a further 35 video trained reporters and photographers.
