Newspaper runs hunt coverage shot with head-mounted camera

The Western Daily Press used a webcam to give readers a closer view of the traditional Boxing Day hunts in its Riders section.

The film, which can be seen via westerndailypress.co.uk/avhunt shows hundreds of people who turned out to watch the Avon Vale Hunt in the picturesque village of Lacock, Wiltshire.

The newspaper gave one follower a head camera to wear, resulting in what it labels “through the ears” coverage.

Once on the move, the camera, carried by Charlotte Adderley, captures the field galloping across fields, wading through water and jumping ditches and rails.

It has already been used to great effect during cross-country competitions around the west region, carried by international event rider and Riders columnist Harry Meade, and during a Clifton Polo Club match.

The £300 head cam, which is designed for use in extreme sports, is proving an exciting investment.

Plugged in the main paper, the latest film was also linked to buttons on the main website and on the Riders microsite www.westerndailypress/riders.
