New people magazine launched for north-west city

Quality regional features journalism is being promised to readers of a glossy new people magazine.

Carlisle Living is the new title from CN Magazines, part of the CN Group, which publishes the News and Star and North West Evening Mail.

The title was officially launched at a charity fashion show last night featuring Carlisle United footballers and midfielder Simon Hackney graces the cover of its inaugural issue.

Editor Richard Eccles said the magazine had commanded strong advertising and editorial support during the pre-launch period, convincing management to defy the current gloomy economic climate and push ahead with full production.

“Carlisle has changed rapidly in recent years and there’s a clear opportunity for a stylish and confident lifestyle magazine that celebrates life in the city,” Richard said.

“I prefer to call it a people magazine rather than a lifestyle magazine.

“Too many city style magazines are all style and no content, and are mostly free. There’s no sense of community or proper local journalism.

“Carlisle Living’s foundation is quality regional features journalism taken to a different level for a sophisticated audience by utilising the glossy magazine format. It’s basic local newspaper stuff – names and faces – but in a modern format.”

The 100-page magazine costs £2 and has a print run of 10,000 copies. It is aimed at a 25 to 45, affluent, male and female urban readership in the city and north Cumbria area.

The magazine is the first new launch from the CN Group’s restructured magazines unit which also publishes Cumbria Life and DGB Life which circulates in Dumfries and Galloway and the Borders.
