New masthead freshens front page for Worcester News

The Worcester News has launched a new masthead with an image of the city’s cathedral taking pride of place on the front page.

The new look is designed to give the paper’s print and online brands an even closer affinity with its home city.

It also features a cleaner, more modern setting for the dateline and cover price, moving away from the previous white-on-black strip.

Editor Kevin Ward said: “I have been keen for our masthead to include an icon that sums up the communities we serve – and what better than Worcester Cathedral?

“It is one of the first points of reference for anyone living in or visiting our county.

“The Worcester News is a vital part of the community and has been for more than a century – this change to our masthead identifies us more than ever with the area we report on every day.”

For those interested in typography, the new masthead is set in 110-point Franklin Gothic Condensed.

The cathedral image is taken from the watercolour ‘Scoring At Worcester’ by city artist David Birtwhistle.
