Irish News crowned daily newspaper of the year

The best of Northern Ireland’s journalism has been celebrated at the annual Chartered Institute of Public Relations Press and Broadcast Awards.

Nineteen prizes were handed out at the awards ceremony in Belfast across print, photography and broadcast journalism.

Among the big winners were the Irish News and County Down Spectator which were crowned daily and weekly newspapers of the year respectively.

The Belfast Telegraph picked up four awards as well as lifetime achievement recognition for its former sports editor Malcolm Brodie.

The judging panel included executive director of the Society of Editors, Bob Satchwell, Press Association editor Jonathan Grun and Brien Beharrell, editorial director at the Newbury Weekly News Group.
