Hunt is on for new No 10 spin doctor

With rumours of a Labour leadership challenge abounding, it may not be the most secure job in the media world.

But journalists and editors looking for a fresh challenge in the often-lucrative world of PR may wish to try their luck by applying for one of the most high-profile jobs in the industry.

Prime Minister Gordon Brown is looking for a new chief press officer to join the Downing Street team, complete with a rumoured six-figure salary.


There are just two days left to enter the inaugural awards run by the National Council for the Training of Journalists.

The Awards for Excellence in Journalism celebrate achievements of students and trainees in five categories: news reporter, sports reporter, top scoop, feature writer and images of the year.

In each category, a prize will be awarded to a student on an NCTJ-accredited pre-entry course and a trainee with less than two years experience.

Craig MacKenzie, brother of former Sun editor Kelvin MacKenzie, is the new deputy editor of freesheet London Lite. Craig left the Irish Sun at the end of May.

He replaces Danny Wheeler who has remained with London Lite’s parent company Associated Newspapers, working on the Mail Online website.


Networking group the Media Society is holding its autumn drinks next month.

The event runs from 6.30pm on September 10 at the Great Chamber Charterhouse, in London.

There will be a guest speaker which is yet to be announced by the society.

A new gay lifestyle magazine for women has been launched.

Called crAve, it contains celebrity interviews, features and reviews.

It also has a companion website www.cravewomen.co.uk.
