High fives as Mail scoops top Yorkshire prize again

The Hull Daily Mail has been crowned Yorkshire’s top daily newspaper for the fifth time in six years.

The Northcliffe title picked up the Daily Newspaper of the Year prize at the 11th annual Yorkshire Press Awards last night.

The future is also looking bright for the paper as Mail reporter Adam Lovell walked away with Trainee of the Year while Phil Buckingham took best Sports Writer and its website thisishull.co.uk helped it win Best Multi Platform News Package.

The Daily Feature Writer of the Year prize, won by the Yorkshire Post’s Nick Ahad, was renamed in memory of Huddersfield Daily Examiner reporter Adrian Sudbury who died in August from leukaemia.

Adrian was also posthumously crowned Yorkshire Journalist of the Year for his Baldy’s Blog and campaigning work on bone marrow education in sixth form, for which the Examiner won Campaign of the Year.

The awards ceremony was held in Wakefield and hosted by news broadcaster Clare Frisby.
