The outgoing team at Newsquest in Cumbria stepped into the fray to help out when an am-dram group fell short in its auditions.

They were looking for performers to take part in The Full Monty.

But the locals were so bashful that only one turned up to the audition… Martin Saunders, part of the publisher’s ‘Be Inspired’ team.

He said afterwards: “My wife had spoken to someone from the society previously and she said I should give it a go. I got to the audition a bit early and they asked me to do a couple of songs.”

Martin’s no stranger to acting – he was in a McDonalds advert in 1995 and has sung in various bands.

“I thought people would be turning up a bit later,” he said. “I was quite embarrassed to have been the only one there.”

Martin is pictured in and with The Westmorland Gazette, wearing only a strategically-placed copy of the newspaper.

This is not the first time Saunders has been published in the buff!! I believe he was Mr March in the Bay Radio’s ‘Boys from the Bay’ charity calender!! There may be copies still in circulation – call the Bay on 01524 848747!!!
