Death toll among young drivers targeted in new press campaign

A new car is up for grabs for young readers of a Scottish daily newspaper as part of a road safety campaign.

Aberdeen’s Press and Journal has launched its Young Driver of the Year campaign in a bid to tackle road deaths among under-25s.

In the past five years 55 drivers and 22 passengers aged between 17 and 25 have been killed on Grampian’s roads.

In the north of Scotland 11 under-25s lost their lives on Highlands and Islands roads during 2006 and a further 15 were killed in 2007.

The paper is calling on the area’s under-25 drivers to enter its competition and prove they are sensible and conscientious behind the wheel.

Entrants must complete Highway Code questions and a tie breaker with semi-finalists chosen for an hour-long driving assessment in their home town.

Twelve finalists will be picked for a track day at the famous Knockhill circuit, in Fife, with specialist instructors and police drivers.

The overall winner will take home a new Seat car which they will receive at the Taste of Grampian Motor Show, in June.

Press and Journal editor Derek Tucker said: “Setting high standards for young drivers is key to stemming the tide of serious collisions on our roads.

“This is one of the biggest safety campaigns we have mounted and will highlight not only the skills of how to drive safely and sensibly but also focus on improving those skills too.”

Alcholism in a big problem in
great Britain. It is rooted to lots of factors, the gap between the rich and the poor makes it worst, the lack of basic education related and social issues do play a big role.
We are witnessing, violence in the high rise among the youth,it’s not a surprise, when the well-being is negleted, let’s take for an example,Canada, we don’t have such problem, why…because the standing of life is taken with care by the governing bobies.
