Daily Record named Newspaper of the Year

The Daily Record has been named Newspaper of the Year at the Scottish Press Awards.

At an event where 22 awards were presented, columnist Joan Burnie was presented with a Lifetime Achievement Award.

Joan has many years of experience on several of Scotland’s biggest newspapers and currently has her own column in both the Daily Record and Sunday Mail.

The Sunday Herald’s Paul Hutcheon was named Journalist of the Year.

The Falkirk Herald was named Weekly Newspaper of the Year, with the Dumfries & Galloway Standard a close runner-up.

The Press & Journal’s Ryan James Crighton won the category for Young Journalist of the Year.

The Scottish Press Awards, now in their 29th year, were established by the Editors’ Committee of the Scottish Daily Newspaper Society to highlight the excellent standard of journalism in Scotland, and to promote and encourage professionalism, talent and skills.

The 22 categories were open to journalists and photographers working for newspapers and magazines published in Scotland and Scottish-based journalists and photographers writing exclusively on Scottish affairs for non-Scottish publications.
