The impact on reporting of citizen journalism and user-generated content will come under the spotlight at a university conference this autumn.

The End of Journalism? is being hosted by the University of Bedfordshire and will re-assess the status and purpose of journalism.

Debates and speeches will also question the role played by formal institutions such as governments, informal institutions and technologies in structuring journalism in 21st century.

Other topics on the agenda include impact of new media, professionalism, amateurism and citizen journalism, employment, education of journalists and ethics.

The two-day conference, to be held at the Luton campus, is being organised by the university’s Centre for International Media Analysis, Research and Consultancy.

The event runs on October 17 and 18 and is open to secondary school and university students, university staff, alumni and other delegates. Keynote speakers have not yet been announced.
