Jobs boost for formereditor's class

A former editor of the Tamworth Herald is offering budding young journalists a chance to get a foot in the door of the industry.

The full-time course is designed to lead to direct entry into the profession.

All but three of the 26 student journalists who graduated from Keith Boughey’s course at Sutton Coldfield College are now working as reporters with newspapers.

The one-year course is fully accredited by the National Council for the Training of Journalists and results in a pre-entry certificate.

Keith is the course tutor and journalism lecturer with other specialist staff on the team teaching newspaper law, public affairs and shorthand.

The courses include work experience and are supported by Keith’s former company Central Independent Newspapers.

Group editor Sam Holiday is a fan of the course and said: “Over the past three or four years I have taken on around a dozen people from the course and all have turned out to be excellent reporters.”
