Your chance to highlight regional journalism

Local Newspaper Week this year runs from June 24-30, and will highlight the work of the regional newspaper industry and its special relationship with local communities.

A record number of local and regional papers took part in last year’s campaign, using press packs and information from the organiser, The Newspaper Society.

Many used it as an opportunity for editorial, advertising and sales and promotions departments to work together to promote their newspaper and the industry as a whole.

Newspaper society director David Newell said: “This is a wonderful opportunity to acknowledge the vital work of our members and they rose to the occasion with a fantastic array of articles, competitions and activities.

“This year, with the local focus of the Golden Jubilee, the importance of communities and the role played by regional newspapers is particularly emphasised. I hope that we can use this to create another successful Local Newspaper Week.”

Editorial content this year is likely to include reviews of successful campaigns, a day in the life of a newspaper, how to become a journalist, new media and electronic publishing, the history of the newspaper – contrast old and modern production techniques and editorial or adverts from old newspapers.

The Newspaper Society has represented and promoted the interests of Britain’s regional and local press since its formation in 1836. It is widely recognised as one of the most effective and influential publishers’ associations in the world. Its work is split into three main areas: marketing, lobbying and communications.
