Wider audience in donor plea

The search for a potentially life-saving bone marrow donor for little Shannon Bradshaw has gone online thanks to the Manchesteronline website.

The seven-year-old, from Warrington, is fighting for her life in hospital after being diagnosed with aplastic anaemia – bone marrow failure.

The only thing that will save her is a bone marrow transplant – but doctors cannot find a suitable donor.

To help in the search, ManchesterOnline has launched a special section to tell people how they can help.

Content editor Sarah Hartley said she hoped the global nature of the World Wide Web might lead to extra potential donors putting their name forward.

She said: “There has already been an amazing response from Manchester Evening News readers in Greater Manchester but the person who has that all-important matching tissues could live anywhere in the country or even the world.

“Maybe Shannon’s story will touch a wider audience with the help of the website.”
