News editor Andy Darlington has had a bad day.
He reversed his editor’s car into the managing director’s car.
And it was just after editor Don Hale, of the Matlock Mercury, was feeling very smug for having a full tank of petrol, (see our earlier story here).
He explained: “My colleague Marcus Edwards and I were going out on a “big job” in the editor’s car – three fire engines had been called to a “huge” chip shop fire in Bakewell.
“Then, as I was reversing and Marcus was directing me, there was a crunch as the vehicles ‘were in collision with each other!’.
“After the apologies, we began to drive to Bakewell, when we saw a fire engine returning to Matlock. A quick call to control on the mobile, and we found the tiny pan fire was out. We turned round and came back.
“Innit marvlas!”
