Two key appointments at Newspaper Society

Jim Brown, chairman of Newsquest Media Group, has taken over as chairman of The Newspaper Society’s new Marketing Committee.

David Hoath, national development manager at the Society, has become its new marketing director.

The key appointments reflect a refocusing of the Society’s marketing effort on the goal of increasing the regional press share of national advertising revenue.

  • Jim Brown
  • Jim Brown said: “The regional press is united in its drive to win a greater slice of national advertising. There is still a long way to go, but I look forward to working with David Hoath and his team, our ad agency BDH TBWA, and research agency Millward Brown, to ensure the regional press is fully recognised as a vital part of the national advertising mix.”

David Hoath said: “We set about the challenge of attracting a greater share of national advertising business two years ago and have built up a real head of steam. I’m relishing the challenge of ensuring that we fully exploit our true potential with national advertisers.”

  • David Newell
  • Newspaper Society director David Newell said: “These appointments illustrate the importance our members attach to the industry’s collective marketing work carried out by the NS, alongside its more traditional lobbying role.”
