A Slough Conservative Party member who photographed a Tory MP hopeful in ‘Taxi Driver’ style poses with knives and guns has had his complaints against the Slough Express dismissed by the Press Complaints Commission.

In January this year, the Express reported that Slough Conservative member Ron Harman had taken pictures of MP hopeful Robert Oulds with a mobile phone camera.

When the pictures surfaced in a tabloid newspaper, Mr Oulds was sacked as Tory candidate and Mr Harman was expelled from his gun club in Old Windsor.

The newspaper industry watchdog rejected Mr Harman’s allegations that the Express’s story had breached his privacy, endangered his life and ‘violated’ his human rights.

He claimed it was not in the public interest to reveal his name and publish his photograph.

But the PCC ruled that there had been no breach of the Code of Practice on any of Mr Harman’s complaints, adding that the photographs were “illustrative of a legitimate new story”.
