The longest two seconds

Experience SCAD – it’s the ultimate adrenaline rush and not quite as weird as it sounds.

Richard Edwards, of the Western Daily Press, paid £40 for two seconds of pure terror on the Suspended Catch Air Device.

It drops you 160ft out of the sky, without the aid of a parachute or rope. Safety net is included.

Richard’s accelerated at a rate of ten metres a second, every second, during his very short “ride”, but lived to tell the tale, which he did in the newspaper.

He said: “Suspended securely 160ft in the air, and staring at blue skies above, all seems well.

“Then the cord is cut.

“For half a second there is sheer fright – by which time the participant is sent hurtling to earth.

“Facing the open sky, the rider is unable to see the ground, and during the next few seconds the feeling of dread is overwhelming.

“During the final moments there is also a feeling of desperation and complete disorientation. Senses are blurred and many wonder why they decided to take the plunge.

“Then, finally, comes the beautiful rasping sound of the net – together with utter relief at hitting safety.

“It is, quite simply, the longest two seconds of life.”
