"Thank you readers"- Louisa, 82

A frail old lady has paid tribute to the Falkirk Herald after the paper stepped in to get her an eye operation.

Louisa Kirkwood, 82, had been due to have a cataract in her left eye removed since Christmas but each time she went for the op, it was cancelled.

After this had happened three times, the Falkirk Herald highlighted her case.

In response to this, Stirling Royal Infirmary made Mrs Kirkwood a priority and her operation took place at the weekend.

She explained: “I could have cried when they cancelled my operation for a third time. I was very disappointed.”

But after hearing that the Herald had won the day for her, she said: “It’s absolutely great. I’m very grateful to the Falkirk Herald.

“It makes a big difference, it’s a good thing we’ve got a voice somewhere, especially us older people.”
